COMPUTER ASSISTANT

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, OPM Qualification Standard for Group Coverage Qualifications Standards for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, GS-0335. This is a developmental position; this position may be filled at the GS-07 Target GS-09 grade level, or this position may be filled as a fully qualified GS-08 or full performance GS 09 level based on the qualification of the candidate. The individual selected for the GS-07 or GS-08 Target GS-09 position may be promoted to the target level without further competition upon meeting any legal and regulatory requirements. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-07:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes operating computer equipment, internal computer processes, application and utility programs, magnetic media; computer techniques, requirements, sources, procedures; equipment operations; system software supported to include application software packages. OR EDUCATION GS-07:
I have successfully completed 1 years of graduate level education in a field directly related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as, Computer Science. NOTE:

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes operating computer equipment, internal computer processes, application and utility programs, magnetic media; computer techniques, requirements, sources, procedures; equipment operations; system software supported to include application software packages. I have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of graduate level education in a field directly related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as, Computer Science. NOTE:

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes includes managing and operating computer equipment, internal computer processes, application and utility programs, magnetic media; knowledge of a wide range of computer techniques, requirements, sources, procedures; knowledge of a wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, principles to identify system failures, take corrective actions to resume normal operations; equipment operations; system software supported to include operating system and application software packages; higher level programming programs comparable to COBOL and FORTRAN; monitor, respond, and correct system issues based on system messages . OR EDUCATION GS-09:

Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in -grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-08 level. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level.TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE:

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
GS-07/08:
Knowledge of computer operating and systems and associated equipment configurations, including peripheral and teleprocessing equipment and connecting channels; and computer operations and problem solving rules, procedures, techniques, and methods. GS-09:
Knowledge of an in-depth body of telecommunications and computer operating systems and associated equipment configurations, including peripheral and teleprocessing equipment and connecting channels. Knowledge of telecommunication and computer operations problem solving rules, procedures, techniques, and methods. GS-07/08/09:
Knowledge of system control language and terms for console commands. Knowledge of communication and security regulations, guidelines, traffic flow, and procedures. Knowledge of the appropriate environmental standards necessary for continuous telecommunications and computer operations. Knowledge of computer operations to monitor the flow of message traffic; identify and correct systems problems; start and restart the system; load program; and operate peripheral devices through the console. Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques. Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces; and higher-level programming languages comparable to COBOL and FORTRAN and other job control languages. Knowledge of data content and output options for a variety of administrative, scientific and/or technical program applications that are processed on any of several multi-program operating systems. Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems. GS-07/08/09:
Ability to operate a computer having many peripheral devices. Ability to isolate and resolve telecommunications and computer processing problems. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to send messages in the proper formats, make necessary corrections if possible, or return the messages to the originators; route messages by referring to manuals when the messages are not directed to addresses that are routed automatically; distribute incoming messages to the proper addressees; request retransmission of garbled or incomplete messages from other cents and provide retransmissions to them as needed; and advise customers of proper telecommunications procedures. Ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems and develop effective and economical solutions; and train users on new computer systems. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
